I agree with Douglas Coupland. Writers are word painters. Words are our supplies.
As the artist uses his brush to bring color to the canvas, our words and word choices bring pictures to the reader’s mind.

I have to agree. Think about this: Freshly mown lawn. Did you smell it? The caw of a crow on a hot summer afternoon? The smooth feel of a baby’s cheek. Did you hear it? Those were words, ideas, nothing more, but they connected you to my thoughts. Right?
