Quote on Life – Robert Frost
About the author
I had a high school English teacher who was very big on memorization. When we studied American poets, she made us memorize poems by Robert Frost, Carl Sandburg, Walt Whitman, James Whitcomb Riley, and Edgar Allen Poe. I didn’t enjoy the assignments much back then. Now as words from the poems flow through my memory, I do.
Robert Frost’s Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening is a favorite. When we lived where it actually snowed in the woods behind our house, I found myself reciting Frost’s poem often as I watched the snowflakes fall.
About the quote
In the throes of that English homework to memorize all those poems and passages from Shakespeare, life passed slowly. I didn’t think the semester would ever be over. Like Frost, I can say in retrospection — life did go on.
And, I’d add that all those memorized words were not wasted.

One Word Wednesday – MOON
Last Monday night moonbeams from the full moon lit up our little mountain top. The sky was dark, but the snow on the ground glistened.
I guess that’s why the Native Americans named it The Snow Moon. Read more about Native American full moon names here.
Edie Melson snapped another full moon picture and added a quote. She’s very generously allowed me to share here on One Word Wednesday.
Isn’t that a wonderful quote from Sandburg?
I wasn’t lonesome, but I did quote a poem I learned as a wee little girl, I See the Moon.
I see the moon, the moon sees me,
God bless the moon and God bless me:
There’s grace in the cottage and grace in the hall;
And the grace of God is over us all.
According to the Farmer’s Almanac, the next full moon – called the Full Worm Moon or Lenten Moon – will be March 27th.
